This is a Test … (Work-In-Progress Wednesday)

I have been working on redoing some of my drawings as paintings and a big lesson already: do not try to make them good and complete. This was making me nervous and not do well with them, and often avoiding working on them at all! Better to think of them as experiments and expect that they aren't always going to turn out as well as planned, especially with these first attempts.

So, this one is an experiment with underpainting. The colors shown in the first slide are a little or a lot different than what is intended in the final piece. The second slide shows the original notebook drawing, and I will probably usually try to stick close to those colors, but not always.

Thinking of it as an experiment makes it more enjoyable for me, less nerve-wracking, more about process and being open to unexpected results.
