Testing, testing …

Trying something new - to me - with this work in progress. As an experiment, the black and white drawing was printed on my home printer. This is just a test - there is at least one mistake and some little glitches here and there that need to be corrected on the artwork.

And this is a cautionary tale about NOT trying something - because I put off doing this experiment for so long. The ink is water resistant, which in my mind is not quite waterproof, so I thought it would run way more than it has with watercolor painting added. I am not sure it’s running even a very little and, for now, I am optimistic. The other concern was running heavy watercolor paper through my printer, so I bought lighter weight (90 lb) paper and that worked, too! If this process is successful, and so far it seems it is, it will open up new areas of possibility for my future art. And I like that very much!

After it was printed, a box was added using a Pilot FriXion pen to indicate the approximate edge of the painting. For those who don’t know about this magic, later, some heat will be added using a blow dryer and the FriXion ink will disappear! There was a painter who demonstrated this technique on Instagram and I wish I could give her credit, but I don’t remember her name.

Hope everyone is enjoying the post-holiday calmness.

Printed on 11” x 14” paper.

P.S. This drawing was originally posted on my Instagram account in December 2021. It’s called “Strange Magic” after the ELO song.
